Japanese cosmetics are legendary for a reason. All my life, I've known that and I've gravitated towards Japanese brands for their Asian formulation and quirkiness and tendency to make one look like a Japanese girl: flawless and impeccable! I myself witnessed how perfect Japanese girls' complexions are during a recent trip to Japan. There was virtually no one I can remember who had dull, blemished skin and I couldn't tell if that was makeup or natural!

Fairydrops Candy Bar BB Cream is my favorite BB Cream!
Thankfully for us Filipinas who are chronic sufferers of blemishes and imperfections, the Japanese brand Fairydrops Candy Bar BB Cream has arrived and is here to stay. Below is a review of my personal favorite BB cream to date:
What is Fairydrops Candy Bar BB Cream?
Fairydrops BB Cream is a Japanese brand created by a TV newscaster, Mayumi Yasutomo, in the hopes of achieving a flawless complexion. This BB Cream contains micro gold pearls to achieve a smooth skin. The cream contains five kinds of treatment essences to moisturize and produce healthy glowing skin: Hydrolyzed Collagen, Squalane, Sodium Hyaluronate, Jojoba Seed Oil and Panthenol.
How did it do?
The Good:

Created by a newscaster, Fairydrops helps you achieve that enviable poreless and smooth Japanese complexion.
-
Malcolm Gladwell had it right---the best ideas can be determined in a blink. That was how I felt as I swiped Fairydrops BB Cream onto the back of my hand using a stippling brush and onto my moisturized (imperfect, blemished) face. I exhaled a sigh of relief as it was comfortably smoothing on my skin.
-
Skin absorption is pretty amazing. Most BB creams I’ve tried in the past were either too thick or too thin, but Fairydrops’ is just right. Fairydrops dried up to a matte finish in a matter of minutes and stays put even in the humid Manila weather.
-
Light Ochre is a perfect Asian shade (NC30 equivalent); no grey undertone, no white cast because there is no SPF and coverage is comparable to liquid foundations which means it can be quite heavy for daily use but also buildable.
-
It may have been the gold pearls but this BB cream does not look flat on the face. It imparts a glow without the shine.
The Bad:

This BB Cream comes with a sponge applicator but can also be used with a stippling brush to achieve an airbrushed effect.
-
The white bottle can look grubby sooner than later.
-
The sponge that comes with the bottle can be unnecessary, though it might be useful for touchups on the go. I personally take off the sponge, and apply the BB cream with a clean stippling brush for an airbrushed effect.
-
Priced at P1,550, this BB cream may not be the most economical option amongst the BB creams available in the market, but you do get what you pay for with this one.
-
No SPF but it is unfair to ask for SPF from a base product because that will compromise the shade delivered.
Recommendations:
-
To get the right shade for you, swipe it on your jawline and if blends well, you’ve got your shade.
-
If you have sensitive skin, wait at least a day before purchase of any liquid facial product. However, in my experience, Japanese products are always hypoallergenic.
-
If you decide to use the sponge included in the bottle, don’t forget to clean It regularly to avoid bacteria buildup.
